HukariAscendent is a Service-Disabled, Veteran-Owned, Small Business specializing in comprehensive engineering and technical support services associated with commercial nuclear power and other Department of Energy (DOE) nuclear activities.   




We are looking for qualified candidates to perform the following: 



POSITION SUMMARY:  
Reporting to the Supervisor, Probabilistic Risk Assessment, this role is considered a senior-level engineer in the area of probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) and/or severe accident analysis experienced in performing PRA analyses on commercial nuclear power plants.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop logic models and perform risk calculations using industry-standard risk assessment methods and simulation tools (e.g., SAPHIRE) without supervision.
2. Apply appropriate seismic concepts to support design and licensing of the NuScale small modular nuclear reactor.
3. Performs fragility analyses in support of a seismic margin assessment and seismic probabilistic risk assessment.
4. Conduct independent analyses to support development of plant-specific probabilistic risk assessments without supervision, such as data analyses (should be familiar with probabilistic models and Bayesian techniques), system modeling using fault trees and sequence modeling using event trees.
5. Effectively communicate with other technical and non-technical disciplines, customers, and regulators; should understand the uses and limitations CDF, LRF, and LERF as risk metrics.
6. Interacts with other disciplines and structural engineering consultants in an effort to lead effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems.
7. Develops requirements documents, methodology documents, design reports, and studies.
8. Mentors and trains other engineers or interns in sound approaches and standards for solving problems in technical areas of expertise.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.



This position starts in June 2021 and is expected to continue on a near 40 hour/week basis for approximately 6 months.  Onboarding and future work will be done remotely, with travel to our Corvallis, OR office as needed once COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted.




 


 
Required Qualifications :

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES



  • Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or physical science from a four year accredited college or university is required. An advanced degree in engineering is preferred.

  • Experience: A minimum of 8 years of full-time, progressively responsible experience in probabilistic risk assessment and/or severe accident analysis is required, preferably on commercial nuclear power plants. Must be able to demonstrate in-depth understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theories. Demonstrated writing and presentation skills. Viable candidates will have verifiable technical writing skills and showcase strong communication with computer, presentation and interpersonal. Exceptional organization skills and abilities to manage complex projects with multiple work phases is also required. 

  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

  • Quality Assurance: Demonstrated understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1.
